Berkshire Country Club
As I said in my previous post about Prairie View, Berkshire was the course I played at all the time when I was younger. I started taking my first lessons here at age 5, but enough on that time for the course. Berkshire Country Club is located here off of 45th St on the south side of Gage. Berkshire has remained mostly the same since I played there in my youth, aside from a tree or two missing. All in all the course is very popular to people around here and gets good reviews. For me the greens were the best part of the course, they were rolling really nice and true, which made putting difficult. The fairways were just average for around here there were spots where there was no grass and the ground looked pretty rough, but for around here that is almost expected. The tee boxes were in pretty good condition aside from a few that you could maybe break your ankle if not watching your step. Berkshire does not really have any bodies of water that come into play but if you can't hit the ball straight the trees or someone's backyard could come into play for you. Berkshire is pretty similar to Western Hills if I had to compare courses. Berkshire Country Club is a good place for golf but wouldn't be my first choice in courses around the area.

Prairie View Country Club
Prairie View golf course is located off of 45th and Auburn Rd. here in Topeka. Prairie View was one of the first golf courses I learned to play at back when I was young. In the fifteen or so years since I first went not much has changed. The course is just not in great condition at all. The tee boxes aren't in terrible condition but the fairway's on the other hand, they were in pretty awful condition. The reason I say the fairways are terrible is because of the spotty bumps almost everywhere on the course. They also don't really have a cart path at all for the carts. The greens were looking good on the other hand and rolled pretty well. But the course is a tough course if you haven't played there before because of blind shots and and the rough ground. But if you want to go work on your game it wouldn't be a bad place to learn at because there usually aren't that many people out there. Although the course is looking a little rough it has a nice serene feel when you play there and that's always good for your game.

Cypress Ridge Golf Course
Cypress Ridge is located off of Urish Rd. here in Topeka. The course when I golfed there when I was young was called Topeka Public Golf Course but renamed years ago. Again as I said in my prior post the weather did wonders for the courses this year. Cypress Ridge is in great condition this year. From the tee boxes to the fairways to the greens everything is in supreme condition. At Cypress there is little room for error with water coming into play on five of the eighteen holes, depending how you hit it. There are also a couple holes lined with thick native grasses growing wild. Even though the course is difficult it is a must play. In my opinion it is one of the top three courses around Topeka. Some of my only negative feedback from the course was the bunkers could have looked a little better and that there were a bunch of ball marks unfixed on the greens. But you can attribute the second one to laziness and lack of respect for the course from players. Overall if you enjoy golfing, you can't go wrong with Cypress Ridge.

Western Hills Golf Course
Western Hills is a nice 18 hole course here in Topeka located off of 21st and Auburn Rd. I have been golfing here the most of any other place I will be blogging about. This summer we saw some beautiful weather and it definitely helped the course out a lot. But no course is perfect, their bunkers were getting some work done to them when I was out there because of the awful shape they were in. Other than a few spots where worms were eating at the greens they were looking pretty good but rolled slow. The fairways and tee boxes were in good condition again aside from a few unexpected dead spots. But overall I enjoy golfing out there because it is a challenging course, if you can't hit your ball straight. Also Western has some good easy holes because of the length of the course, which isn't terribly long.
